I have personally learnt
a lot of things in the ES1102 class. The things I have learnt is not just kept
within the tutorials, instead, it could be brought to my other modules. It have
helped me analyse questions better and made me more aware of my grammar. Even
though my grammar is still not perfect, but I can safely say I have less
grammatical errors now as compared to the past before my ES1102 tutorials.
With ES1102, it has widened my content and helped me structure my essays better. With extensive research
and reading through many readings for the topics, it has broadened my
perspectives and taught me to question what was given to me instead of accepting
everything I am given. Reading articles given in class and the class discussion
have helped me improve my language. Reading articles gave me exposure to how I can
write essays in an analytical manner since there are always two sides of the
stories, while class discussions have made me verbalise my questions and thus
helping me with the structuring of sentences.
My weaknesses are still
my bad grammar and writing long sentences making it sound lengthy and draggy. I
will need to practice more on my grammar by doing more grammar exercises. I
feel that the text-editing is useful in testing our grammar, even though it
could be quite demoralising at the start. I think I could read more to be able
to better phrase my sentences. I could also extend my vocabulary list so that I
can shorten my sentences with the suitable words, instead of elaborating and
being lengthy just to bring across a point.
Audio and written
feedback were really useful and it’s a good way to get feedback. I would listen
to the audio feedback and look at the written feedback at the same time. This allows
me to make rough changes at the same time and allow me to better understand the
areas I did wrongly and require improvement.
I think it would help if I
had audio and written feedback in my modules as it could help me improve on my
mistakes and it also helps me identify the more commonly made errors in my
writings. I should learn to be more aware of my grammar so that I can make less mistakes instead of realising it after the work is marked (which is always too late).
